Miller, Rich Honored by CBA

Boise, Idaho (March 3, 2003)— The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Dakota Wizards center Oliver Miller earned National Conference Player of the Week honors, while Gary Steelheads guard Jemeil Rich was the American Conference recipient, for the period of February 23-March 1.

The Wizards compiled a perfect 5-0 mark last week thanks in part to Miller's 12.6 ppg, 10.4 rpg, and 4.0 apg. In a 94-89 (5-2) win over the Idaho Stampede the 6-10, 325 lb. Miller posted game-highs of 23 rebounds and 3 blocks to go along with his 16 points and 4 assists. On Saturday the eight-year NBA veteran notched the fifth triple-double of the CBA season, tallying 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 125-107 (6-1) defeat of the Rockford Lightning.

The 5-10, 170 lb. Rich averaged 16.7 ppg, 9.3 apg, and 5.0 rpg in leading the Steelheads to a 2-1 mark. In a 116-110 (5-2) victory over the Idaho Stampede he scored 21 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, and dished a game high 15 assists. In his first CBA season the Southern Methodist ('97) product is averaging 13.1 ppg, 7.2 apg, and 2.5 spg.

Other players receiving consideration for National Conference honors were Idaho guard Michael Johnson (27.0 ppg, 9.3 apg), Sioux Falls forward Victor Thomas (22.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg), and Yakima guard Mitchell Butler (22.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg). The three other players receiving consideration in the American Conference were Rockford guard Marshall Phillips (29.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg), Great Lakes guard DeSean Hadley (14.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg), and Grand Rapids forward Kevin Simmons (14.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg).
