Mill Rats Washed out by Rainmen

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats were washed out on the road against the Halifax Rainmen with a final score of 121-104, in front of 3,952 fans.
The Rainmen opened the game with a strong run, 16-3, holding the lead for the first quarter despite Greg Plummer's 3 at the buzzer closing the score to 32-18.
With just under 8 minutes remaining in the second, the Rainmen led by 20 points, 43-23. The Mill Rats had a stronger second quarter performance and were able to close the gap to 58-48 by the end of half.
The Mill Rats fought hard during the third and were able to narrow the Rainmen's lead to 83-75 but were still unable to come out ahead. Numerous dunks from the Rainmen helped to foster their lead.
The Mill Rats battled out the fourth in a very physical game. The fourth quarter action was up and down the court as the Rainmen answered back every time the Mill Rats attempted to tie the game.
With just under 7 minutes remaining, the Mill Rats closed the gap to 94-89 but with 4:28 remaining, the Rainmen went on a tear. Tyrone Levett dunked the ball back in for Richard Anderson, bringing the score to 105-91. The Mill Rats were unable to recover.
The Mill Rats percentage from the line really prevented the team from getting the edge they needed. Their free throw percentage was only 68.8% compared to the Rainmen's 95.5%.
This game featured strong play from both new players Darren Duncan and Courtland Bluford. Duncan came in with 14 points and 11 assists. Leading scorer for the Mill Rats was Canadian player Isaac Kuon with 21 points. PJ Young came in with 15 points. The Rainmen were led by Joey Haywood with 25 and Lawrence Wright with 24.
Saint John drops to 9-13 on the season and the Rainmen improve to 15-5. The Rainmen have won 11 of their last 12 games.
The Mill Rats host a rematch with the #1 ranked London Lightning on Sunday, January 15th for the "Smells Like School Spirit" theme night. Game time is 5pm at Harbour Station. Present a valid student ID to get an upper bowl seat for only $5!
