Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB ): The Saint John Mill Rats sent the Halifax Rainmen home with another loss, this time 100-91, at Harbour Station. The Mill Rats are now 6-1 against the Rainmen this season.

The Rainmen keyed on Mill Rats star Anthony Anderson all night, looking to take him out of the game. Anderson responded with a game high 10 assists en route to a triple-double with 14 points and also 10 rebounds.

"We figured since he (Anderson) has had big offensive outputs in our previous games against Halifax that this would be their strategy, but 'Double A' is so smart he found our other guys open for shots," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon.

Saint John built a 45-37 halftime lead but gave it right back as the Rainmen went on a 15-2 run to start the third quarter. But the Mill Rats never panicked and soon had the game back in hand with a 72-66 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In final quarter the lead hovered between 5 and 11 points until the time expired.

Doug Herring Jr. led the Mill Rats in scoring with 21 points, Tyrone Levett added 18, Eric Crookshank 16, Anderson 14, Jermaine Blackburn 13, and Raheem Singleton 10. JuJuan Cooley led Halifax with 19.

Former Mill Rat Chris Matthews, who was recently traded to the Rainmen, had 7 points on 3-10 shooting.

The Mill Rats build their lead in first place in the Atlantic Division to 14-9 while the Rainmen fall to 3-20.

The Mill Rats are back in action at home next Thursday January 16 7PM against the Island Storm, and next Sunday January 19 at 4PM against the London Lightning.

Single game & flex tickets are on sale at the at the Harbour Station Box Office by calling 506-657-1234.
