(Saint John, NB): There are no more undefeated teams in the National Basketball League of Canada. The Saint John Mill Rats dropped a barn burner to the Island Storm 108-105 at Harbour Station.

"Tonight we faced a team that played with a determination and our determination wasn't up to matching theirs," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "Give the Island Storm credit they made tough shots and yeah some things didn't go our way down the stretch, but we'll learn to play through it."

The Mill Rats started slowly falling behind 18-5 to the Island Storm. A 23-10 run on the strength of 14 first quarter points by Anthony Anderson tied the score at 28-28 after one.

In the second quarter again Saint John took its time to get going, falling behind 40-29. A Gabe Freeman turnaround jumper followed by Freeman block led to a breakaway layup by Corey Allmond, and cut the deficit to 40-38. Allmond followed that up with a three pointer in the quarter for Saint John's first lead. The two teams traded baskets leading to a 61-60 Storm lead at the half.

The Mill Rats trailed 103-99 with a little over a minute left when they forced a turnover against the Storm. A Corey Allmond three pointer was waived off by the officials, as they called a moving screen on Darren Moore, much to the dismay of the crowd. Saint John dug down and tied the game 103-103 two possessions later when Allmond found Freeman open underneath for a layup.

After a free throw and a score by the Storm, the officials mysteriously reset the Storm's shot clock from 4 seconds to 24. The Mill Rats trailed 106-104 when Darren Moore was fouled on a rebound, but he was only able to make 1 of 2 free throws cutting the deficit to 106-105. Brent Jennings scored a driving shot to make the margin three. Saint John had three looks at a tie but all three bounced off.

Anthony Anderson led Saint John with 23 points, Doug Herring Jr 22, Gabe Freeman 21, and Corey Allmond 18. Malcolm Grant led the Storm with 24 points.

Saint John falls to 3-1 and the Storm improves to 2-2.

The Mill Rats head to Halifax tomorrow morning for a 2PM game at the Scotiabank Centre against the Halifax Hurricanes. They host the Island Storm next Saturday January 9th at 7PM at Harbour Station in a rematch.

Single game, flex, and prorated season tickets are on sale at the Harbour Station Box Office or by calling 506-657-1234 or by visiting www.harbourstation.ca.
