(LONDON, Ontario) - Saturday evening, in front of 4,629 fans at Budweiser Gardens, the London Lightning defeated the Orangeville A's, 106-101.

The Lightning improve to 3-1.

"The Orangeville A's came out with more energy and more enthusiasm, but we were able to match it at the very end and gut out a good win," said head coach Kyle Julius.

Leading the Lightning in scoring was London born Warren Ward with 24 points.

"It was a scrappy, scrappy battle," said Ward. "We moved the ball but we struggled on the glass. We're happy we were able to pull out a win for the fans."

Chad Posthumus recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds, Tyshawn Patterson scored 18 points and Stephen Maxwell had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lightning also held the annual Charity Roundball Tournament Saturday, featuring four local boys high school teams from Saunders, Clarke Road, Central Secondary School and Westminster Secondary. This year's tournament raised close to $5,000 for the Downs Syndrome Research Institute, the charity of choice from last year's winner. Clarke Road won the tournament over Saunders this year and will choose the charitable recipient for 2017.

The Lightning play their next home game Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Windsor Express.

Tickets are available through the Budweiser Gardens Box Office, or by visiting www.budweisergardens.com.
