Mill Rats Balanced Attack Overcomes A's

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats balanced attack with seven players in double figures overcame the Brampton A's 111-106 at Harbour Station.
A state of emergency and a week long blizzard wasn't enough to keep a throng of 1,484 Mill Rats faithful away to watch the home team rally from a 16-point second quarter deficit to their first ever franchise win over the A's. The Mill Rats trailed 45-29 mid second quarter, but reeled off a punishing 24-7 run to take a halftime lead of 53-52.
They continued their aggressive play in the 3rd, going on a 16-4 run to start the second half. The A's cut the deficit to 99-97 but Jeremy Williams and Alex Johnson scored to make it 103-97 with 5 minutes remaining. Kyle Johnson scored for Brampton and then Keith Cothran hit a free throw, made an assist, and drained a three pointer to beat the shot clock to slam the door shut on the A's with a 109-99 lead.
Alex Johnson and Keith Cothran came off the bench to lead the Mill Rats in scoring with 19 and 18, respectively. Jeremy Williams posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Darin Mency scored 12, Tyrone Levett and Johnny Mayhane each had 11, and Eric Crookshank 10. "Air Canada" also added 11 rebounds in just 15 minutes of playing time. Richard Amardi lead the A's with 24 points.
Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King said after the win: "Our depth is really starting to show which is great. Players are human beings and they aren't going to be 'on' every game, so its such an advantage to have other guys who step from and help carry the load. We are peaking at the right team as we prepare for the playoffs in a few weeks."
Saint John improves to 13-14 while Brampton falls to 12-13.
The Mill Rats next game is February 12th at Harbour Station against the Island Storm.
