Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats added some much-needed athleticism to their front court by signing 6'8 forward Andrew Francis.
The high-flying Francis played the first 15 games of the season as a member of the Moncton Miracles, where he averaged 12.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1 block per contest.
He was a highly coveted player whose name was mentioned in trade talks. Finally on January 4th he was traded to the Oshawa Power for Akeem Wright. When Oshawa released him earlier today, the Mill Rats wasted no time signing him.
"Francis is player we inquired about several times while he was in Moncton, and we are excited to add him to our roster as we come down to the stretch run," stated Mill Rats President and General Manager Ian McCarthy.
Saint John travels to Ontario to face the Oshawa Power on Thursday night January 26th for their Rogers Slam Dunk Night game. On Sunday they head to London to play the Lightning in a 2pm tip off.
The Mill Rats currently sit at 11-13 in fourth place, and have a 2 1/2 game lead over the 5th place Summerside Storm. The next Mill Rats home game is next Wednesday February 1st against the Moncton Miracles at 7pm at Harbour Station.
Saint John is still with out the NBL Canada's leading scorer, Anthony Anderson, who is out with a fractured hand. And the #3 leading scorer in the league, Greg Plummer, is also out injured with a pulled hamstring.
Mill Rats single game and flex tickets are now on sale at the Harbour Station box office 657-1234 or the Mill Rats office 214-4454.
