Mike Horacek tabbed AFL Ironman of the Week

March 1, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release

Following his three touchdown performance versus the Arizona Ratters on Sunday, Dragons WR/LB Mike Horacek has been named the US Army Ironman of the Week for Week Five. The honor is awarded to the AFL player that shows exemplary play on all sides of the ball. The announcement was made live on ESPN News on Tuesday afternoon.

"It's a great award to win in the AFL," said Horacek. "It was a total team effort on Sunday, so I owe a lot to my teammates. I wouldn't have been able to play the way I did without them. I also want to give credit to the defensive line because they pressured the quarterback and let me come up with the key interception."

Offensively, Horacek recorded five receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns. However, his biggest contribution came on defense when he intercepted a fourth quarter pass from Rattlers' QB Sherdrick Bonner and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. The play sealed the win for the Dragons, who improved to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 at home.

WR/DB Corey Johnson was also in the running for a weekly award as he was a finalist for the ADT Defensive Player of the Week honor.

After next Sunday's battle on NBC against Philadelphia, in Philadelphia, the Dragons return home to face the Georgia Force on Saturday March 12 at 7:00 pm. For ticket information call 1-866-AFL-TIXX.
