NEW YORK â New York Dragons wide receiver/linebacker MIKE HORACEK, Dallas Desperados quarterback CLINT STOERNER and Colorado Crush defensive specialist RASHAD FLOYD have been named U.S. Army Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 5 of the 2005 season. The announcement was made live on ESPNews this afternoon.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN: Horacek (6-2, 200, Iowa State) led the New York Dragons (3-1) in Sunday's 61-37 victory over the Arizona Rattlers (1-4). On offense, the former Offensive Player of the Year hauled in five receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he tallied one of his team's record-tying six interceptions, which he returned 22 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. In total, Horacek recorded three touchdowns. This marks the third time that the eight-year veteran has earned an AFL weekly honor.
OFFENSIVE: Rookie Stoerner (6-2, 210, Arkansas) guided the Eastern Division-leading Dallas Desperados (4-1) to a 72-43 victory over the Philadelphia Soul (2-3) on Sunday. Stoerner completed 15-of-23 passes (65.2%) for 242 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback connected with JASON SHELLEY and BOBBY SIPPIO on three scoring strikes each. The Desperados scored on every possession, except the last to run out the clock. This marks the first time that the former Razorback has earned an AFL weekly honor.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Floyd (5-9, 180, Portland State), who is in his fourth AFL season, helped lead the Central Division-leading Colorado Crush (3-2) to a 58-40 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers (3-2) on Sunday. The former Viking tallied an AFL single-game record 17.5 total tackles, including a tackle for loss and three passes defensed, as the Crush defense held the Avengers nearly 15 points below their season-scoring average. This marks the second time that the All-Arena performer has earned an AFL weekly honor.
