Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks have announced the signing of transition man Mike Holmes to a one-year deal.
"I am really excited and looking forward to the opportunity and giving it my all," he said.
The 25-year-old Holmes was a standout for the Six Nations Slash, who finished one win away from reaching the 2014 Can-Am Finals. The Mississauga, Ontario native finished the season with 15 goals and 20 assists in 11 games. His 35 points were tied for fourth on the Slash. Holmes also chipped in two goals and one assist in the Can-Am All-Star Game.
"We had a great season, but we had higher expectations," said Holmes. "We thought we had the team to go all the way. It was a great stepping stone and we are hungry for next season."
The Six Nations Slash are under the leadership of Owner and General Manager Jeremy Jamieson. With Jamieson at the helm, the Slash earned a 10-4 record and a third-place finish. Six Nations advanced to the league semifinals for the fourth straight season. The Slash lost in a hard-fought five-game series to the eventual champion Onondaga Redhawks.
The 2014 campaign was Holmes' second season with the Slash. During his playing career, he has also suited up for the Senior "B" Brooklin Merchants and the Niagara Hawks (Can-Am). Holmes played junior lacrosse in his hometown of Mississauga.
"I am a hard worker. I use my speed to my advantage," said Holmes when asked to describe his style of play. "I try to play both ends of the floor."
He will use those attributes when he arrives in Rochester Friday night to prepare for the first weekend of Training Camp. The Knighthawks are slated to practice at Total Sports Experience in East Rochester Saturday evening and Sunday morning. For two days, he will play alongside the three-time defending National Lacrosse League champions.
"I am excited," he said. "I am going to try to take it all in and learn as much as I can from these guys."
