Knighthawks Sign Kyle Potter

Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks have announced the signing of Kyle Potter to a one-year deal. Potter, whose brother Andrew played with the Knighthawks, will arrive in Rochester tonight to prepare for Training Camp.

"I am happy to be coming to the Knighthawks. It's a big chance," said Kyle Potter. "I am looking forward to going to Training Camp."

The 21-year-old broke into the Junior "A" circuit with the St. Catharines Athletics in 2014 and posted impressive numbers. He led St. Catharines in assists (44) and finished second on the team in points (64). He was rated among the Top 50 prospects heading into the 2014 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft and was recognized for his elusiveness and floor vision.

"He is a good young righty with a good background in box playing in St. Catharines Junior 'A'," said Knighthawks Assistant Coach Paul Day.

This season with the Athletics, Potter learned from two former Knighthawks in Head Coach Ian Rubel and Assistant Coach Pat McCready.

"Pat really helped me improve my game and showed me how to get better on the offensive side of the floor," he said.

In 2014, Potter also played one game with the eventual Creator's Cup Champion Niagara Lock Monsters of the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax). Prior to last season, Potter spent four years with the St. Catharines Spartans. At the Junior "B" level, he massed 81 goals and 141 assists in 78 games. In 2013, he led the Spartans with 70 points and finished in the Top 20 in the league with 43 assists. It's safe to say that Potter has seen the benefits of playing in the St. Catharines' system.

"I think it's helped me a lot. I got to see a lot of great players come through St. Catharines. I remember watching Matt (Vinc) win the Minto Cup up in Kitchener," said Potter. "Watching good players, you pick up on their tendencies and see what they do."

Kyle is the second Potter to sign with the Knighthawks. His older brother, Andrew, who was the 14th overall in the 2007 NLL draft by Rochester, played with the K-Hawks in 2008 and 2010. Andrew had some advice for his brother before he left for camp.

"He told me to go there and work hard and make a good first impression," said Kyle. "I just want to learn as much as I can and show them I want to be there and improve as a player."
