Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
With one of the best single week performances of any player in the Midwest League this season, River Bandits outfielder Oscar Taveras has been named the Midwest League player of the week for July 11-17.
Over that span, Taveras, 20, went 15-for-25 for a remarkable .600 average. He had an OBP of .643 and he slugged .960. He also notched six extra-base hits, scored 10 runs and drove in five more.
Taveras had a 12-game hit streak snapped on Monday afternoon against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Over that stretch, he raised his batting average 40 points from .353 to .393.
The left-handed hitting outfielder signed with the Cardinals organization out of the Dominican Republic in 2008. He was rated as the Cardinals #24 prospect according to Baseball America at the start of the season.
Taveras is the first Bandit to earn offensive Player of the Week honors from the Midwest League this season.
UP NEXT: The River Bandits are back in the playoffs for the second straight year. Playoff tickets will be on sale soon. Stay posted on the River Bandits website and subscribe to Bandit Alerts to get the latest including being the first to know when postseason tickets become available.
