Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning has signed Chad Hagerty to a new deal, according to general manager David Horne. Hagerty, who is with the team this week in practice, made his debut with the Lightning last season in the team's first campaign.
Chad Hagerty is back with the Louisville Lightning for a second season. The team inked the Louisville native to a new deal this week, keeping the midfielder with the team through the 2010-2011 season. Hagerty made six appearances with the Lightning last season, scoring five goals and earning an assist in the club's debut.
Hagerty brings a wealth of college and club soccer experience to the Lightning. The midfielder, who turns 24-years-old this month, started his collegiate career at Saint Louis University, where he made 17 appearances for the Billikens. He then transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he played in 15 games and started nine times in his first season with the squad. His experience moved him into a starting role in 16 games during his junior season, where Hagerty led Conference USA with six assists. He was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team during his junior year, and finished his career as a three-time Conference USA All-Academic Team selection. In 2010, Chad was named an NSCAA Academic All-American and the the University of Kentucky Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Chad plans to attend medical school next fall.
The midfielder won nine state titles with Javanon '87 in his club career, then in 2006, Hagerty won the USYSA U-19 Region II Championship and USYSA National Championship. He was a member of back-to-back state championship teams at Louisville's Saint Xavier High School in 2002 and 2003, and finished as state semifinalists in 2001. Hagerty was a two-time KHSAA First Team All-State selection and the 2003 Kentucky Eurosport Player of the Year. The Lightning midfielder was also named a 2004 NSCAA adidas Academic All-American following the completion of his high school career.
"We're pleased to have Chad back with the team again this year," Lightning coach Ted Nichols said of the new signing. "Chad is a savvy player that creates goal scoring opportunities with his aggressive attacking ability. He is also very fit and has a genuine passion for the game."
Hagerty is expected to be in uniform for the Lightning at the team's 'Kick Cancer' intrasquad scrimmage on October 22nd. Admission for the game is free. To read more about the pink versus yellow contest, click:
