PORTLAND, Ore. - The name "Ancelloti" is no stranger to European soccer fans. AC Milan U-21 midfielder Davide Ancelotti, son of AC Milan head coach Carlo Ancelotti, brings a family history to PGE Park created by his father as he faces the Timbers on Tuesday.
Davide, 17, visits Portland with is AC Milan Primavera teammates as they face the Timbers at PGE Park with more than just another name on the back of his jersey. He is the son of one of the most recognizable soccer figures in Italy - former Italian National Team member and current AC Milan head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
A participant of the 1990 World Cup, Carlo played for AC Milan for five seasons (1987-1992) during his career. His time in Milan is highlighted by back-to-back Champions League titles in 1989 and 1990.
In 2001, Carlo took over the sidelines for AC Milan and quickly joined the ranks of the Italian coaching elite. In only his second season, Carlo directed AC Milan to the 2002-03 Champions League title, becoming only the fifth manager in European soccer history to win the Europe's most prestigous competition as both a coach and a player.
Since then he has led AC Milan to a Serie A title and Italian Cup championship in 2003-04, a Champions League finals appearance in 2005 and most recently this season's Champions League crown.
In recent history, the "Ancelotti" name has become synonymous with AC Milan and Italian soccer. As Davide takes the field in his first appearance with the Primavera (U-21) squad against the Timbers on Tuesday he begins a new chapter in his AC Milan career hoping to one day follow in the footsteps of his father.
