Miami FC Visits Last Place Aztex
August 28, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Miami, August 28, 2009 - Miami FC will end its four-game road trip when it faces last place Austin Aztex this Saturday, August 29th at Nelson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
Still feeling the disappointment of Wednesday's loss against the Railhawks, the Blues hope to finally end their seven-game losing streak and add points to their playoff hopes .
"A loss like that is unacceptable, we met with the front office and we had 'players' only meeting' and the team is feeling hungry again. We are going to leave it all on the field, and treat every game like it's a playoff game. Everyone on the team feels we can bounce back from this," said Miami FC defender, Tim Merritt.
Although Miami suffered huge losses on the road, the team continues to fight for the final spot in the playoffs. Currently, the team is six points behind the Vancouver Whitecaps, who are in seventh place and currently hold the last spot for the playoffs. The Blues beat the Aztex on June 14th by a final score of 2-0 at Lockhart Stadium.
The Aztex are also on a streak of their own, not having won any games since its last win against the Cleveland City Stars on July 3rd. Furthermore, the Aztex will suffer a deduction of two points off the team's season total after it allowed one of its players - who should have been suspended - to play in the match against Montreal on July 25th.
After Saturday's game, Miami returns home to face the Aztex once again. The game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5th at FIU Stadium. Kick off will begin at 8pm. This will be the last game played at "The Cage" for the remainder of the season.
