Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Miami, FL June 17, 2009- Miami FC travels to Middlefield Cheese Stadium this Thursday to face the USL-2 Champions, the Cleveland City Stars. The Blues are coming off an impressive victory beating the Austin Aztex 2-0 at Lockhart Stadium this past Sunday. The team will play the Stars again on Saturday, June 20th to finish the double header.
The Blues missed out on the third round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup losing a competitive game to the first place, Charleston Battery. Zinho's team, however, has found some shape recently, boasting some of their most competitive and attractive soccer yet. After losing a controversial game in Vancouver, the team has been playing a lot better. Head Coach Zinho seems to think it has to do with the team coming together.
"With a shortened pre-season, the guys had to get to know each other fairly quickly," said head coach, Zinho. "It took us a while, but we are building chemistry on and off the field. I like a lot of things we are doing on the pitch, but we still have a long way to go."
Cleveland is coming off a 2-1 overtime defeat in US Open action to Rochester Rhinos. The Stars haven't won a game since May 26th and are 2-7-2 for the season. The Cleveland City Stars have faced Miami once, losing the season opener 3-1 back in April.. Diego Serna had his best night of the season scoring one goal and assisting on another.
Notes...
Rod Underwood will be able to count on former Miami FC and Haitian National Team Member, Stephane Guillaume.... The City Stars also have in their ranks Gordan Kljestan, brother of USA National team member, Sasha Kljestan...Cleveland midfielders, Pato Aguilar and Godfrey Tenoff, were named to the USL team of the week....
