Cleveland City Stars News Release
CLEVELAND, OH: The Cleveland City Stars are preparing to take on the Miami FC Blues on Thursday, June 18th at 7 p.m. in the first match of a two-game series. Miami defeated the City Stars 3-1 in the first game of the season in April.
The City Stars disappointing defeat in the season opener has become a thing of the past, as the Stars have won 3 of their last 4 matches, and are also undefeated in 2 straight league matches. With a new record of 2-7-2, the City Stars are on the brink of moving up from the 10th place in the USL league standings. Last Tuesday the City Stars clinched a resounding defeat of the PDL's St. Louis Lions 3-0 in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup, contributing to the Stars winning streak.
Leading goal-scorers and forwards Joshua Boateng and Ricardo Pierre-Louis have greatly contributed to the Stars recent success, and assist-leader Pato Aguilera has been a crucial part of five of the team's goals. Aguilera has also been named to the USL-1 Team of the Week for the past two consecutive weeks while Captain Godfrey Tenoff, forward Joshua Boateng, defender Troy Roberts and goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap have also made recent Team of the Week appearances.
Miami are only two points above the City Stars in league standings, hanging doggedly on to 9th place. Boasting a 3-5-1 record, Miami forward Diego Serna has led the team in goals and assists. After beating the City Stars in the first match, Miami managed to defeat Montreal and Austin, but fell to the more talented squads from Charleston, Carolina, Vancouver and Rochester.
Tomorrow's match will be "Sunny Thursday" with all tickets only $5. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m., with three showings broadcast on SportsTime Ohio. The City Stars will face off with Miami once again at Middlefield Cheese Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday will also be Father Soccer Night, with the crowning of the Father of the Year as well as contests, prizes and giveaways.
