Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Miami, April 9, 2008 - Miami FC has partnered with the YMCA to create an exciting family experience. On April 12th Tropical Park will be the site of Miami FC's opening game against the Charleston Battery, at 7:30 pm. Before the game, YMCA will be hosting "Healthy Kids Day" a national event where parents, kids, and entire families can come together for fun activities, meet with vendors that offer information on staying healthy, and enjoy learning about foods that build a strong and healthy body.

This partnership represents the best that sports have to offer. The YMCA is one of the nation's largest providers of youth sports activities, including soccer. Many children who have been a part of the YMCA have grown up and become Olympic or professional athletes.

Wilt Chamberlain was on the national YMCA champion men's basketball team at age 16. Olympians Mark Spitz and Greg Louganis both learned to swim at the Y. Miami FC, which believes in encouraging children to play sports for the love of the game, will be working with the South Dade Family YMCA to provide clinics and coaches' training for the upcoming soccer season.

"It remains our goal here at Miami FC to be committed to the health and fitness of the children in our community," remarked Miami FC President Aaron Davidson. "I believe that this initiative is directly in line with that goal."

"YMCA Healthy Kids Day" activities are free and begin at 6:00 pm. The Miami FC opening soccer game starts at 7:30 pm.

Also at Tropical Park Stadium, Saturday will showcase matches between the Miami FC Kendall U-16/U-18 teams and the corresponding IMG Soccer Academy teams.

The Miami FC Kendall Under-16 program will get set to do battle beginning at 3pm at Tropical Park's north practice field. The last time the team met with the IMG Under-16 team they prevailed in a 3-2 victory.

The Miami FC Kendall Under-18 program will then follow immediately after at 4:45pm, at Tropical Park's main field, the same where Miami FC's pro team plays. They will be looking for revenge after suffering a tough 1-0 loss at the hands of IMG back on March 8 of this year.
