Miami, FL- Miami FC continues to prepare for their two upcoming games against Puerto Rico Islanders this weekend. The first match will be held on Friday, July 28 at 7:30 PM and the second one is on Sunday, July 30 at 4:00 PM, both at Tropical Park Stadium.
This is the first meeting between the two teams in what should instantly become a big USL rivalry in the tropics.
The South Floridian squad is looking forward to winning all six points this weekend against the Caribbean team in order to keep their main objective well within reach, making the play-offs.
Currently Miami FC is 9th in the USL First Division Standings, but they are only 5 points behind the Islanders, whom are in 5th place. Therefore two wins against Puerto Rico would propel Miami FC into play-off contention.
Brazilian forward Romario is the league's second leading goal scorer with 10, and is returning to Miami FC's starting lineup after missing last weekend's game against Charleston due to an injury.
Also available for Miami FC in these games will be their newest additions, Kansas City Wizards goalkeeper Eric Kronberg, and former Chivas USA defender, Francisco Gomez.
The 6'4" Kronberg, who excelled at the University of California at Berkeley, was signed on loan from the Wizards until the end of the season.
Gomez is a defender, but has the versatility to play midfielder as well. During his MLS career (from 1999 to 2005) he played in 135 games and scored 13 goals.
Besides goalkeeper Chris Doyle, who is injured, Head Coach Chiquinho de Assis has all of his players available for the upcoming weekend matches.
Earlier this week, midfielder Artie Bartholomew was released by the team due to an injury that limited his playing time.
