Miami, FL - Miami FC fell to the Puerto Rico Islanders this Friday night 4-2 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. The South Floridians failed to clinch a playoff spot tonight, but they have to face the Isanders again on Sunday, and a tie in that game would still mean postseason for Miami FC.
In the first half, Miami FC was highly superior to the home side. At the 7th minute of play, Romario scored his 18th goal of the season, heading in a Jamil Jean-Jacques assist. Twelve minutes later, Miami FC was up 2-0 on a superb free kick converted by Zinho. After Zinho's goal, John Pulido had a long range shot that was very close to being the 3-0. At the 28th minute, Puerto Rico got one back on a penalty scored by Allen Marcina. Before the end of the first half, Sean Fraser saw a long distance shot stopped by the keeper.
In the second half, Miami FC was unable to maintain control of the game and Puerto Rico turned things around. At 53rd minute, Arturo Norambuena headed in the 2-2. And 20 minutes later, in what appeared to be an offside, Allen Marcina scored the 3-2 to give the Islander an advantage. When Miami FC was making a push to tie the game, Noah Delgado scored his first goal of the season at the 82nd minute and gave Puerto Rico the 4-2 win.
Miami FC finishes the regular season on Sunday, when they face the Puerto Rico Islanders at 5:00 PM at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. A tie would still give Miami FC a postseason berth. Like defender Francsico Gomez said after the game; "At least we still hold our destiny in our hands."
