Miami FC News Release
SAN FRANCISCO (October 18, 2017) - Â The The Miami FC was on the road Wednesday afternoon to take on the San Francisco Deltas in a match that was rescheduled from Hurricane Irma. In what was a physical match, the Orange and Blue were able to earn a point on the road with a 2-2 draw.
The first half would see the Deltas get the upper hand early as the Miami FCÂ worked its way into the match.
Six minutes into the match, Miami FC goal keeper Daniel Vega went full stretch to tip a Tommy Heinemman header over the bar to keep the score at 0-0. Vega would come up big again in the 21st minute, putting his body on the line to jump on a ball a few yards away from the goal line.
The Deltas would take the lead in the 25th minute after Heinemman collected the ball at the far post and finished a close range shot.
The Orange and Blue did not stay down long, getting on the board in the 28th minute. Forward Stéfano Pinho collected the ball just outside the box, pushed his way into the area and slotted the ball just inside the far post.
With the halftime whistle about to blow, the Miami FC earned a free kick in Deltas territory. Midfielder Richie Ryan sent in a picture perfect ball to the far post, where Blake Smith was waiting. Smith took one touch and fired home his first goal of the 2017 season to give Miami a 2-1 lead.
The second half was even more physical, with neither team able to create many chances until the very end of the match.
In the 71st minute the Deltas were awarded a penalty shot. Miami FC captain Jonathan Borrajo went in for a tackle and clipped the Deltas attacker just inside the box. San Francisco's Dagoberto would convert the chance to tie the match at 2-2.
The match would devolve into chaos in the final minutes as both team nearly found match-winners.
Just as extra time started the Deltas would see a flurry of chances either just miss or get deflected for corners, never finding the back of the net.
The Miami FC would then take the ball the length of the field for the final attack of the match. Pinho found himself one-on-one and with forward Jaime Chávez charging unmarked into the center of the box. His pass would be a bit heavy, forcing Chávez's shot to go over the crossbar, ending the match at 2-2.
The Miami FC now heads to Canada and closes out the week on Saturday against FC Edmonton, before returning home against the same club on Saturday, October 28. Kickoff from Riccardo Silva Stadium is set for 7:30 PM.
The Miami FC will begin postseason play at home on Sunday, November 5th at 5 PM. Tickets for The Championship Semifinal are on sale now at MiamiFC.com/Tickets. For groups of 10 or more, call 844-MIAMIFC.
