The Miami FC Disarms the Jacksonville Armada in 1-0 Victory The Miami FC shut out the Jacksonville Armada in front of a crowd of 3,627 on Saturday night to gain their first victory of the fall season. After increasingly frustrating offside calls, which kept the Miami FC off the scoreboard, striker Jaime Chavez notched a goal in extra time to earn his team three points in the NASL standings. "I want to see that our players can sense an opportunity and do what they have to do to kill the opponent," said head coach Alessandro Nesta. "I want them to know that they can win every match when they step on the pitch." Chavez impressed from the first whistle. In the 18th minute, he used his speed to carve out a clear lane to the goal, but was taken down from behind.

Jacksonville's Beto Navarro was issued a red card for the foul. Midfielder Richie Ryan's ensuing free kick dropped towards the near post, but was saved by goalkeeper Matt Bahner. Dario Cvitanich came closest to putting the Miami FC ahead in the first half. The Argentine headed a dribbling pass from the corner into the back of the net, but was called offside in the box. The takeaway marked the third time in a total of two games versus Jacksonville, in which Cvitanich had a goal nullified by offside calls. Despite an early, aggressive Jacksonville attack, the Miami FC defense was superb from the start. While keeping a clean sheet, the Miami FC dominated 74.7% of possession in the first half. The Miami FC emerged from halftime with increased intensity on offense.

In the 68th minute, Gabriel Farfán wheeled around his defender to set up a shot for Pablo Campos, whose shot missed high. An offside call offset another Miami FC goal in the 74th minute. Steele worked a cross to Chavez from the corner and the striker finished for a score, but the referees deemed the play illegal. Chavez appeared to own at least a foot of room between him and the last Armada defender prior to the pass. Finally, as extra time began, Chavez's effort was rewarded. The forward received a chance at redemption against great odds. Having navigated through three defenders at the top of the box using excellent footwork, Martinez launched a shot to Bahner's right side. The ball rolled off of the keeper's body and Chavez came up with the rebound. The Miami FC held on through extra time to earn their first win of the season and first all-time victory against Jacksonville. Next up for the Miami FC is a road trip to WakeMed Soccer Park as they face off against the Carolina Railhawks.
