Miami, July 11, 2007 - Miami FC and the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired met on the field at Tropical Park Stadium Tuesday for some fun in the sun.

Two vans full of children ages 10-13, volunteers, special helpers, and grandparents arrived just before noon to participate in soccer related activities. The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind brought with them soccer balls equipped with special sound making devices.

"We encourage a lot of hands-on activities for the children," said the group's trip leader Eddie Ryan. The children also have gone swimming, kayaking, and are planning on playing baseball this summer.

Most of Miami FC's players stayed after practice to hang out and meet the children. Twelve year old Vontrell Scott said, "This is my first time meeting professional soccer players. I love sports." As he waited for his turn to score on midfielder Sergio Van Kanten, who was playing goalie, Vontrell said with confidence, "I know I can score on him." And he did just that, kicking the ball past Sergio.

Miami FC players had just as much fun as the kids. Defender Chris Williams held little Frankie's hand as he pulled back his Shaq tennis shoes and kicked a beeping soccer ball past World Cup Champion Zinho. With some encouragement from Williams, Frankie shouted, "in your face!" Frankie and Williams celebrated by taking a bow.

"I had a lot of fun and the kids were really cool," said Williams. "I liked how we got a chance to interact directly with the kids one-on-one. It was a rewarding experience, and I hope they come back to visit us again."

All the kids got to try and kick a ball past one of Miami FC's players. After the practice with the players, the kids got some snacks, Powerade, t-shirts, and free tickets for future Miami FC games. Every kid left with huge smile on their face.
