Buffalo Bisons News Release
The New York Mets have announced that they have signed OF Rob Mackowiak, LHP Jon Switzer and RHP Kyle Snyder and to minor league free agent contracts. All three received invitations to major league spring training next month.
Mackowiak, 32, is a veteran of nine Major League seasons. He split the 2008 season between the Washington Nationals, where he appeared in 38 games, and the Louisville Bats. Mackowiak also spent time with Pittsburgh from 2001-2005, the White Sox for a season and a half, and San Diego after being dealt at the trade deadline in 2007. A career .259 hitter, Mackowiak has played all three outfield positions, plus first, second and third base during his career.
Switzer, 29, was originally selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2001 draft. He spent last season with the Pawtucket Red Sox and went 5-1 with a 4.40ERA and one save in 52 games and one start. The southpaw has played parts of four major league seasons with the Rays, last pitching in the majors in 2006.
Snyder, 31, appeared at four different levels for the Red Sox last season, including two games out of Boston's bullpen. The righthander, originally drafted seventh overall as a starter by Kansas City in 1999, appeared in a career-best 46 games and was on Boston's World Series roster in 2007. Snyder is 8-17 with a 5.57 ERA over parts of six major league seasons.
