St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE Fla. (August 11, 2015) - David Wright continued his rehab assignment by playing six innings at third base for the St. Lucie Mets, who went on to beat the Fort Myers Miracle 3-1 on Tuesday at Tradition Field.
Wright batted third and went 1 for 3 with a swinging strikeout, pop out in foul ground and a single. His base hit came in his final at-bat in the sixth.
Wright had three balls hit to him at third base: two bunts and one slow roller. He made a play on the second bunt but did not have a chance to get an out on the first bunt or slow roller.
Also making a rehab appearance was starting pitcher Rafael Montero, who hasn't pitch for New York since April 28. Montero gave up a run, two doubles and a triple in two innings. He walked one and threw 44 pitches (26 strikes).
The Mets broke a 1-1 tie against Miracle reliever Zack Jones in the seventh. Jones issued a leadoff walk to Maikis De La Cruz, who stole second base with one out. Lednier Ricardo line the next pitch into left field to bring home De La Cruz for a 2-1 lead.
Jhoan Urena, replacing Wright in the order, led off the eighth with a triple. An errant throw by Ryan Walker to third base sailed into the Mets dugout and Urena was awarded home to put the Mets up 3-1.
Mike Hepple dodged trouble when he loaded the bases on walks in the seventh but got Marcus Knecht to fly out.
Hepple pitched a perfect eighth with two strikeouts to get his third win.
Kyle Regnault tossed a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to earn his fourth save.
Marcos Molina, fresh off the disabled list, entered the game behind Montero in the third and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings. He scattered four hits while walking one and striking out one. Molina had not pitched since May 13.
The Miracle jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Engelb Vielma led off with a triple against Montero. Vielma scored two batters later on a ground out.
The Mets tied the game in the home half of the second. Dominic Smith hit a double and later scored on double by Victor Cruzado to make it 1-1.
The Mets (59-55, 24-20) and Miracle (62-54, 24-22) conclude their series on Wednesday at Tradition Field. The Mets are seeking their fourth straight series win. First pitch on an All You Can Eat and a Seat night is 6:30 p.m.
