Mets Notch First Shutout with 4-0 Win in Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Tuesday night.
Mets starter Jack Wenninger was dominant in this appearance of the season. He twirled 6.0 innings and allowed just one hit, a one-out single in the third inning. Wenninger did not walk a batter and struck out 10.
Wenninger retired the first seven batters of the game then set down the final 11 he faced after Trey Faltine's single. Wenninger has accumulated 28 strikeouts in 18 innings, now the most in the FSL.
Miguel Alfonseca pitched a 1-2-3 seventh. Ernesto Mercedes overcame three walks and one infield single over the final 2.0 innings to preserve the team's first shutout of the year. The two hits are also the fewest allowed by the Mets in a game this season.
Chris Suero provided all the runs for the Mets. He delivered a two-out, two-run double off Brian Edgington in the fourth inning. Suero again hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 4-0.
Ronald Hernandez and Nick Morabito set the table for Suero. They each scored twice. Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a double. Morabito went 3 for 4.
Edgington took the loss. He gave up two runs on six hits over 4.2 innings.
The Mets (8-8) and Tortugas (8-8) play the second game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
