Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Kingsport Mets were able to take an early lead on the Greeneville Astros and hold on for a 7-4 win at Pioneer Park on Thursday Night. It was the exact score as the night before when the Astros took game one of the series, just the opposite team getting the victory.
The game began with Kingsport's Jorge Rivero hitting for a triple with one out the first inning and then scoring on a wild pitch. Greeneville then matched their score with a RBI-triple from Brian Blasik.
In the second inning, the Mets got a RBI-single from Branden Kaupe to take the lead. Then, two batters later with the bases loaded, Rivero hit his second triple of the night to clear the bases and put Kingsport up 5-1.
The next score came from Greeneville in the bottom of the sixth inning. D'Andre Toney led off with a double. Then, Blasik knocked him in on a RBI-single to cut the Mets lead to three.
Kingsport and Greeneville then each scored two runs apiece in the seventh inning. The Mets scored both of theirs on an Astros throwing error from third to first. Then the Astros answered with an Angel Ibanez two-run double, but could get no closer over the final two innings.
Mets starter John Gant gave up two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings and earned the win (2-2). Andrew Massie pitched the final inning for the Mets and picked up his first save.
The Astros will face the Mets for the final time this season in the rubber match on Friday. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
