Mesa sweep Armada with 8-4 win

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (30-22) swept the three-game series against the Long Beach Armada (27-26) at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona by winning 8-4.

Manny Ayala (8-2) pitched a complete game giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He also struck out six and walked none. The Armada scored two runs in the first and second innings to gain an early 4-0 lead. The Miners climbed back into the game in the fourth inning with RBI singles by Marcus Knight and Ayala. Mesa took the lead in the fifth inning when Knight had another RBI single after Marcus Jensen singled in two. The Miners added some insurance runs in the sixth when Caleb Maher cleared the bases with a double.

Long Beach starter Reed Harvey (2-5) gave up 13 hits and eight runs in 5.1 innings of work. The Miners will start a four-game series against the Japan Samurai Bears tomorrow at 6:35pm at HoHoKam Park.
