JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Richie Ryan has only been in Jacksonville a little over a month, yet the Armada FC's resident Irishman has had little trouble finding his spot on the new squad.

Head coach and technical director Tony Meola announced on Wednesday that Ryan would be the team captain for 2016 Armada FC season. The decision came as little surprise and garnered mutual consensus and support among his new teammates.

"What made me choose Richie as captain was his leadership," said Meola. "Some guys are just born to be leaders and be in the front of these things. You got to have a guy that people respect and that people listen to. When we announced it to the guys, they were pretty excited and they responded very well."

Ryan, who served two seasons as Ottawa Fury FC's captain, was named to the NASL's Best XI and led Fury FC to the best record in the NASL's 2015 Fall Season along with an appearance in the NASL Championship Final last November.

He has already made an impact both in his positon and in the locker room with three starts, including his first with the club during the Armada's 2-1 victory over Major League Soccer side Orlando City SC in early February.

"I'm very proud and very happy to be the one nominated to wear the arm band for the Jacksonville Armada," said Ryan. "We've got a great group of lads here so to be one of the leaders of that group is a great honor."
