Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced on Wednesday that they have signed forward Ryan Menei (mu-NAY) and defenseman Pat Oliveto (ALL-ih-vet-oh) for the 2008-09 season. Per club policy, terms of both contracts were not disclosed.
"Pat played a big role on the blueline for us last season," said Sea Wolves head coach Steffon Walby. "He's a guy that was at the top of the list to bring back for this coming season, and we're pleased to have him back on our blue line again."
In 70 games with Mississippi last season, the 6-1, 190-pound native of Rochester, New York recorded seven goals and 16 assists while compiling a +11 plus/minus rating.
Oliveto appeared in seven regular season games with the ECHL's Reading Royals during the 2006-07 season, recording one assist, after completing his collegiate career at Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York. In 118 games with the Purple Eagles, Oliveto recorded 10 goals and 46 assists.
Menei was the Sea Wolves' representative at the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, Ca., and scored 23 goals and 53 assists in 71 regular season games as a rookie. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Menei played three full seasons in the Western Hockey League with Saskatoon, appearing in 177 games while scoring 114 points (50g, 64a). In 2006-07, the 5-11, 203-pound Menei scored 77 points (35g, 42a) in 71 games with Saskatoon, before beginning his pro career with Muskegon of the now-defunct United Hockey League. In 10 regular season games with Muskegon, Menei scored three goals and two assists, and in nine playoff games, the 22-year old scored three assists.
"Ryan was a pleasant acquisition," stated Walby. "He really proved himself as an elite rookie. He expects to be better than last year, and is working hard over the summer to have a successful sophomore campaign."
