Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - The Express (55-73) scored some runs Saturday night at Dell Diamond, it just scored them too late, as Memphis (67-60) rolled to a 7-3 win.
Redbirds starter Evan MacLane didn't make it easy on Round Rock, either. The crafty southpaw allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings of work, earning his fifth win of the season for Memphis.
The two Major Leaguers on rehab assignment, Aaron Boone for Round Rock and Troy Glaus for Memphis, had uneventful evenings, going a combined 0-for-5. Glaus picked up a sacrifice fly in his final at-bat.
Memphis got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when sacrifice flies by Matt Pagnozzi and Shane Robinson brought home Allen Craig and David Freese to make it 2-0.
It only got worse from there for the Express, as Memphis scored five runs on five hits in the sixth inning, digging a big 7-0 hole for Round Rock.
They tried climbing out in the eighth inning and it started with a double by Lou Santangelo with one out. Matt Kata followed with a single to left field to put runners at first and third for Reggie Abercrombie, who hit into a would-be double play, but Tyler Greene sent the throw to first wide, and it helped keep the inning alive and allowed Santangelo to score. Chris Johnson made it count with a double to left-center field, scoring Abercrombie, and Brian Bogusevic brought him home with a single. But that was as much damage as the Express bats could do on the night.
Express starter Mark McLemore allowed five runs on six hits in five innings of work, earning his 10th loss of the season.
No Experss batter managed more than one hit on the night.
The two teams meet again Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. with left-hander Polin Trinidad taking the mound for Round Rock and right-hander Oneli Perez scheduled to take the hill for Memphis.
