Memphis remains on top in week two coaches poll

CHICAGO - The Memphis Xplorers received 207 points and 14 first place votes to remain in first place in the Week 2 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. The defending ArenaCup champion Xplorers defeated the Tennessee Valley Vipers on the road this past weekend, 47-25, to solidify their claim to the top spot for the second straight week.
The Manchester Wolves, idle in Week 1, moved up one spot this week to number two with 181 points, including two first place votes. The Florida Firecats claimed third with 159 points (one first place vote). The Louisville Fire, who lost on the road to W-B/Scranton (37-45) in Week 1, fell nine spots from 2nd place to 11th this week (70 points). The Quad City Steamwheelers, Green Bay Blizzard and Rio Grande Valley Dorados, who all suffered first week defeats, fell out of the top 12. They were replaced by the Arkansas Twisters (5th, one first place vote), Central Valley Coyotes (7th, one first place vote) and Bakersfield Blitz (10th, one first place vote). The Twisters, Coyotes and Blitz were all winners in Week 1. The expansion Spokane Shock also made their first appearance of the season in this week's top 12.
Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
