
Mehl Named ASG MVP, Brandt Signed By Brewers

With six players representing Chico, the North Division All-Star's won an exciting 9-6 showcase in St. George, Utah Tuesday night. The Outlaws very own Truan Mehl was named the 2009 Golden Baseball League All-Star Game MVP after a two double performance that drove-in three runs.
Truan Mehl, in his first year in the GBL, has ranked among the league's best hitters all season long. In a stellar performance, Mehl was 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI. Mehl's double in the 6th inning scored two runs and gave the North a commanding 9-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Mehl leads the Outlaws with 59 hits on the season, and has posted a .396 BA that ranks as third in the entire GBL. Mehl has hit safely in 34 of 36 games he has appeared in this season, beginning the season with a 13 game hit-streak. The Kansas native and former Texas Rangers minor-leaguer has driven in 27 RBI this season, second best on the Outlaws roster.
In other exciting news at the All-Star game, Outlaws left-hander Donald Brandt has signed a contract to join the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Brandt becomes the first Outlaw this season to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization, and he becomes the 99th player signed from the Golden Baseball League in its five-year history. Donald Brandt also becomes the 13th GBL player signed in 2009.
Brandt dominated out of the bullpen to begin 2009, and moved into the starting rotation on June 19th. Brandt posted a 4-1 record in 42 innings worked, striking out 41 and only walking 18. The southpaw from Santa Clara University is in his second season as a professional.
The Outlaws will now travel to Canada for the first time in 2009. The team will reassemble in Calgary and begin a four day, five-game visit to Foothills Stadium. The series opener is at 6:05 P.M.
