Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - Westoba Credit Union (WCU), in association with the Brandon Wheat Kings, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019-2020 Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters contest.
"This is our fifth year for the Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters contest and the pickup from Brandon and surrounding communities was outstanding," said Jim Rediger, Chief Executive Officer of WCU. "The goal of the contest was to give the kids an opportunity to get involved, be creative and talk about something their passionate about."
Joining the list of media personalities currently covering the Western Hockey League club will be nine-year-old Carson Fowler, and ten-year-old Keira Vines, both are from Brandon, Manitoba. Carson and Keira are warmed up and ready to hit the locker-room as this season's Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters!
The contest, which ran September 5 to October 18, asked Manitoba hockey fans between the ages of five to twelve, to showcase their interviewing skills and show us why they should be our next Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporter. The contest drew interest from kids all over the province and resulted in eighteen excellent entries.
"This is one of our most exciting promotions during the year," said Rick Dillabough, Wheat Kings Director of Business Operations and Sponsorship. "Manitoban boys and girls win a once in a lifetime opportunity to interview their favourite players, just like the reporters do, and see themselves up on the big screen at a Wheat Kings home game. Our contestants seem to be getting better and better each year. Choosing two from the long list of entries proved extremely challenging."
The next steps for Fowler and Vines are to hit the bench with the Brandon Wheat Kings! The Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters will have two opportunities to interview players and put them on
Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters will have two opportunities to interview players and put them on the spot with their burning hard-hitting questions.
The Westoba Wheat Kings Jr. Reporters will make their 2019-2020 season debuts near the end of 2019. All interviews will be on the WCU YouTube channel and the Video Scoreboard at several Brandon home games in 2019-2020, as well as all over social media
On the ice, the Wheat Kings kick off a 2-game Saskatchewan road trip Friday night in Prince Albert.
