Mike Williams is a mama's boy and proud of it.
"My mom was my best friend up until I got married," said Williams. "Growing up I was a little hard headed, getting into a lot of fights and stuff. She changed me into opening my eyes and being focused on things to make me successful."
Alice is proud of her 25 year old son who is now defined by his work ethic.
"I'm the type of person who never gives up or quits at anything that I do," said Williams. "I just translate into everything, basketball, my family or just helping someone."
Williams was a High School All-American out of Camden, Alabama. He attended Texas University and finished up at Cincinnati. Both stops were eventful.
With the Longhorns, Williams played into the Elite Eight of the 2006 NCAA Basketball Tournament. He was a teammate of NBA players LaMarcus Aldridge of the Trail Blazers and Daniel Gibson of the Cavaliers. After transferring to Cincinnati, he met his wife to be, Emy (pronounced Amy). They now have two daughters, 3 year old Keoni and 3 month old Keylee.
"I'm a big time family guy. My wife and my two daughters, I just love them to death. Everyday I see them on Skype. You go on line and you can see them and they can see you as well. And just talk and communicate. It's good."
After playing a season of professional basketball in Holland, Williams wound up in the Premier Basketball League with the Vermont Frost Heaves. He was leading the PBL in scoring. Seven games into the season that team folded, and Williams' fortunes changed again. He wound up here.
"I felt bad about the situation that happened in Vermont," he says. "Coming here from that was an opportunity. I just have to make the best of it."
