Medical Recovery Sidelines rock Coach Les Bartley
November 5, 2003 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Toronto Rock News Release
TORONTO â The Toronto Rock wish to announce that, due to medical reasons, Les Bartley will not serve as the team's general manager and head coach during the 2004 National Lacrosse League season.
On October 26, doctors discovered a malignant tumour while performing surgery on Bartley to remove a bowel obstruction.
Bartley, 48, underwent a successful second operation on November 3 to remove the tumour.
Best wishes for Les Bartley and his family may be directed to the Toronto Rock office, (416) 596-3075.
While Bartley recovers, Rock assistant coach Ed Comeau becomes interim head coach. Assistant coach Derek Keenan will serve as the club's interim general manager.
"Our concern is with Les and his family," said Brad Watters. "We're all hoping he makes a quick recovery."
Bartley's wife, Gloria; daughter, Laura; and son, Matt wish to thank in advance all for their concern, thoughts and prayers.
Bartley has coached the Toronto Rock to four Championships in his six seasons with the club, including the 2003 Champion's Cup last May.
