SALT lAKE CITYâSalt Lake Stingers' third baseman Dallas McPherson was named the 2004 Sporting News minor-league player of the year. McPherson batted .317 (165-for-521) with 107 runs scored, 36 doubles, 14 triples, 40 home runs and 126 RBI for the Arkansas Travelers and Salt Lake Stingers this season. McPherson made his first Major League start at third base last night and went 3-for-3 with one RBI to help the Angels move a half-game closer to Oakland in the American League West. McPherson collected his first Major League hit and RBI Monday night in the Angels' 5-2 victory over Seattle. Dallas blasted 20 homers in 68 games for Arkansas and then hit 20 more home runs in 67 games for the Stingers. His 40 home runs ranked second in the Minor League Baseball Round-Tripper contest.
Dallas McPherson was featured on the cover of the September edition of AT THE YARD magazine. McPherson is featured with sluggers Ryan Howard and Brandon Sing as the top three home run hitters in Minor League Baseball in 2004.
