Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros picked up their first win of the young season in dramatic fashion on Saturday night at Pioneer Park. With the Astros leading 6-5 and one out away from a victory, the Elizabethton Twins had top prospect Nick Gordon up to bat with runners at first and second. Gordon connected a fly ball directly down the left field line that looked like it was going drop in for a hit, but Astros' left fielder Sean McMullen hustled over to the line and laid out for a game-saving catch just before it fell to the ground.
The Astros got in a hole early as they fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings. However, they made a small dent in the lead in the bottom of the third. With Jason Martin on second, Sean McMullen connected on a fly ball single to center field to bring him around for the Astros' first score.
Still trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Astros got a leadoff single from Juan Santana. McMullen followed with a walk. That set the Astros up to score some runs and get back into the game. Trent Woodward, Jacob Nottingham and Ydarqui Marte would each go on to connect on RBI singles to even the score at 4-4.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, with one out, the Astros got two consecutive runners on base following fielding errors. Then, Luis Reynoso hit a two-run single on a ground ball into center field to give the Astros a 6-4 lead.
The Twins managed to score one run following doubles by Brian Navarreto and Pat Kelly in the top of the ninth before McMullen's catch ended the game.
Astros' right-hander Angel Heredia picked up his first career win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief. Meanwhile, Eric Peterson came in for the final inning and was credited with a save for the first time as a professional.
Greeneville will begin a new three-game home series against the Princeton Rays on Sunday. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
