Mariners Top Royals 6-4

A little bit of rain couldn't stop the Mariners from taking the second game of the series against the Burlington Royals with the final score of 6-4.

Zack Littell, pitcher for the Mariners, performed admirably in his opening game with the Mariners. Littell had five strikeouts in five-and-a-third innings while yielding three runs and earning the victory.

"I was very happy with my pitching performance" said Littell. "I felt really good and threw the ball well". "I faced this team a couple of time in extended Spring Training."

In the bottom of the third, Gianfranco Wawoe of the Mariners collected the first hit of the evening. One batter later, Nelson Ward got the Mariners started with a double, scoring Chase Nyman and Wawoe for the first runs of the evening.

Ward, a product of the University of Georgia, has continued his hot start in the season with two more hits, keeping his batting average at .667.

In the bottom of the 4thcatcher Wayne Taylor crushed a ball into deep right center for two run homerun. Taylor's homerun, the first of his career, to the trees beyond field gave the Mariners a 3-1 lead over the Royals.

Despite his impressive performance in the first five innings Manager Rob Mammau retired Littell for the night. Three Mariners combined to throw one run ball in the relief of Littell.

Rookie Ryan Yarbrough entered the game in the 9thinning for his first career save opportunity. Yarbrough kept the Royals off the bases to give the Mariners the 6-4 win.

The Mariners look to ride their hot offense to a series sweep of Burlingtontomorrow night. Ward attributes the team's hot start to the hitting coach James Lofton.

"Credit to Lofton" said Ward. "He's one of the smartest hitting coaches I've ever seen". "It's our hard work paired with the genius of Lofton".
