Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League announced today that Sparky McEwen has been retained as the team's offensive coordinator and Glen Hall has been added to the staff as the team's defensive backs and special teams coach.

McEwen, 34, returns for his fourth Rampage season and third as the team's offensive coordinator. Originally hired as an offensive assistant and advance scout in 2000, McEwen was promoted to his current position in January of 2001, the team's ArenaBowl XV championship season. Last season, McEwen helped guide a Rampage offense that ranked first in total offense (304.6 yards per game) and second in scoring offense (54 points per game). In addition to his role with the Rampage, the former Ferris State and Rampage quarterback serves as the head coach at Creston High School (Grand Rapids), where he has coached for the last seven seasons.

"Having Sparky back helps us maintain a great deal of the continuity in our offensive scheme that has produced a great deal over the past two seasons," said Michael Trigg, Rampage head coach and director of player operations. "His ability to balance his successful program at Creston and the Rampage is a testament to his dedication and love for the game of football."

Hall, who enters his first AFL season, most recently coached the defensive secondary at Grambling State University (1994-98), working under the legendary Eddie Robinson and alongside current Rampage assistant head coach Robert Smith. The 41-year-old began his coaching career at his hometown Mansfield (La.) High School (1989-91), and then split three seasons between Hinds (Miss.) Community and the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff. Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Hall played for Robinson at Grambling (1979-1983), earning All-SWAC honors as a defensive back in 1981.

"Since agreeing to the position, Glen has impressed with his eye for talent and method of instruction at our last two open tryouts," Trigg said. "His knowledge for the position will give our defensive backs a clinical teacher. He is very learned in secondary play, and we are excited about his enthusiasm to improve the overall performance of our defense in 2003."

After opening the 2003 season with back-to-back road contests, the Rampage kick off their home schedule with a 3 p.m. NBC affair against the New York Dragons on Sunday, Feb. 16. Full season and mini-plan ticket packages are currently available by calling the Rampage office at 1-888-595-4878.
