
McDonald inducted into the USL Hall of Fame

Shawn McDonald of the Virginia Beach Mariners was inducted into the 2005 USL Hall of Fame Sunday evening during the USL Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.
Over 250 executives, team coaches, and staff from the four USL senior leagues attended the USL Annual General Meeting held at the Grand Hyatt in Tampa, Florida from October 28-31.
McDonald was one of 11 members named as "USL Builders" and "valued members of the USL family" during the awards ceremony. McDonald has been with the Mariners since they were formed in 1994.
"I am honored and humbled by this award and appreciate the recognition. The Virginia Beach Mariners have come far and I know they will continue to move forward in this new era and vision for the Mariners", stated McDonald.
Mike McCann, Managing Team Director who participated in the USL Annual General Meeting in Tampa said he was extremely pleased in the well deserved recognition. "Shawn has been with the Mariners since their inception and his contributions to the team and their fans is outstanding. We are all proud that USL has acknowledged his contribution to soccer over the years", he said.
The USL Annual General Meeting featured the annual USL Tradeshow, Executive Committee meetings, league meetings and scheduling for the 2006 season.
