Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc Head Coach Randy Murphy announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Bill McCreary and signed defenseman Dean Petiot.
McCreary (5-10, 175) played in 55 games for the Havoc last season and scored six goals, recorded 28 assists and had 177 penalty minutes. He played in 49 games for the Havoc in 2007-08 and seven in 2006-07. He played for Coach Murphy in New Mexico at the end of the 2007-08 season. For his career, he has scored 11 goals and recorded 55 assists in 114 career games. He had the opportunity to play in the Central Hockey League this season but has decided to stay in Huntsville.
"Billy is a huge piece to our defensive core and team chemistry," Murphy said. "He will expected to continue to elevate his game as he has every year of pro hockey he has played. He is also a multidimensional player that can give us different looks on the backend."
"I want to stay in Huntsville because I feel I have some unfinished business after last year," McCreary said. "The fans and the city deserve a championship and I think Coach Murphy provides just the sort of leadership that it takes to bring one here. We're going to be a hard-working, blue collar, scrappy hockey team, which is my kind of game. I'm excited to bring that style of hockey back to Huntsville."
McCreary will join Freakdaddy on the air on Rocket 95.1 FM around 4:30 this afternoon.
Petiot (6-1, 200) played in five collegiate games in 2008-09 at Bowling Green. He played in 100 career junior games in the AJHL for the Camrose Kodiaks. He scored 16 goals, recorded 25 assists and had 400 penalty minutes.
"Dean will be in his first season of pro hockey in Huntsville, and he will bring a presence on the backend through hard-nosed play and tenacity," Murphy said. "He comes highly recommended from Bowling Green State University and it's coaching staff. We are looking forward to, and feel extremely fortunate to acquire a player and individual of Dean's caliber."
"I'm excited to start my professional career in Huntsville," Petiot said. "Coach Murphy was very persistent and honest which I liked. I play a tough defensive style of game that makes it hard for opponents to come into our rink. I firmly believe defense wins championships and I am looking forward to bringing both to Huntsville. I would like to thank Coach Murphy, Huntsville organization and the Havoc fans for making this possible."
