Published on January 5, 2004 under Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

Boise, ID (January 5, 2004) — Yakima Sun Kings Head Coach Bill Bayno has stepped down from his position and left the team, it was announced today by the Sun Kings front office. Maz Trakh, who was an assistant under Bayno last season, will take over the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season.

"Maz helped architect last year's championship team and he is very familiar with the system we have been using, and is familiar with the guys on the team now," stated Sun Kings Managing Partner Darren Uceny. "He was the mastermind of a lot of our player moves last year, which worked out well for us.

"I do not think the team is that far off from some very exciting things. We just need to get over the hump and start putting some W's on the board, and Maz is our best choice to come in and help us put our best foot forward."

Trakh and Bayno led the Sun Kings to a 28-20 record during the 2002-03 regular, season before knocking off the defending champion Dakota Wizards in the first round of the National Conference Finals. Yakima then went on to capture its third CBA Championship (1995, 2000, 2003) with a 117-107 victory over the Grand Rapids Hoops on March 24.

This season the Sun Kings are 5-6 at home and 1-10 on the road, and are currently in last place in the CBA with a 6-16 record (2.7 quarter-point average).

Trakh's Sun Kings head coaching debut will be Wednesday, January 7, when Yakima travels to Sioux Falls to battle the Skyforce.
