Texas Tycoons News Release
Longview, TX - Mayas-USA exacted revenge on their cross-state rival Texas Tycoons on Sunday, defeating the Tycoons 109-105. The Tycoons had defeated the Mayas 147-133 two nights earlier in Dallas but this time the Mayas got even. Behind 31 points from Daryl Dorsey (6'1''-G-81, agency: Edge Sports, college: S.Indiana) and a big game of 17 points and 17 rebounds from Reo Logan (6'11''-C-81, college: Georgia St. ), the Mayas made the plays down the stretch to pull out a tough home win. Texas was missing starting Center Aristide Sawadogo (7'1''-C-81, college: Clayton St.) and starting Power Forward Marcus Sloan (6'9''-F-82, agency: Worldwide Hoops, college: TCU ) and it showed as the Mayas game plan was a steady diet of feeding the ball down to their bigs and outrebounding the Tycoons by 13 on the night. Sawadogo was in Georgia this past weekend participating in graduation ceremonies at Clayton State University, where Sawadogo received his degree in accounting. Sloan had emergency family business to attend to and could not be present for the game either and that left the Tycoons a little thin across the front line.
Scoring for the Mayas were the aforementioned Dorsey with 31, Kareem Grant (6'6''-F/G-82, college: Tennessee St.) had 23, Logan 17 points and 17 rebounds, Brandon Hartley (6'4''-G-81, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: St.Martin's) 14, and Deshawn Anderson (6'3''-G-81, agency: Pro Management Agency, college: Emporia St.) 11. For the Tycoons Chris Davis (6'5''-G-80, college: N.Texas ) led the team once again, this time with 23 points on 9-14 shooting. Tyrone Rayson (6'6''-F-80, college: East Central) had 21 points and 14 rebounds, Mario Kinsey (6'2''-G-82, college: Texas Coll.) had 18 points and 10 assists, Benny West (6'3''-G-82, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Howard Payne ) had 12 points and forced Dorsey into 15 of 44 shooting from the field with his excellent defensive play, Josh Gonner (6'2''-G-82, college: S.Carolina) finished with 10.
The Mayas and Tycoons are now both 3-1 on the young season having split their games with one another, each protecting their home court. The teams are scheduled to play eachother 4 more times this season, two each in Dallas and Longview. Final score Mayas-USA 109, Texas Tycoons 105.
