Joliet Slammers News Release
(Joliet, IL)- Starting pitcher Steven Maxwell threw an absolute gem on Thursday night in Joliet, posting a no-hitter through seven and one-third innings, taking the Slammers to a 2-1 win, breaking their four-game losing streak.
Joliet jumped on the board early and never looked back. After slugging his first career home run the previous game, Jimmy Waters laced a single to lead things off. Two outs later, Erik Lis and Kyle Maunus both recorded RBI doubles, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Boomers scored their first and only run in the eighth inning. Nick Kuroczko broke Maxwell's no-hit effort with one down, and moved to third on a Ty Nelson single. With runners on the corners, Karexon Sanchez grounded out, but Kuroczko scored on the play, putting the tally at 2-1.
Maxwell was a revelation for Joliet, tossing eight complete innings on two hits while walking three and fanning six. Amalio Diaz entered in the ninth and struck out the side to earn the save.
The Slammers finish the six-game homestand Friday night at 7:05 against the Western Division-leading Schaumburg Boomers in the series finale. Fans attending the game will be treated to Rat Pack Night and Fireworks Friday. If you can't make it to the game, fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
