Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - After losing two leads, the JetHawks were unable to come back from a rough seventh inning in an 8-6 loss to the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday night at The Hangar.
Chase McDonald led the JetHawks (47-40) with three runs batted in, while Ronnie Mitchell drove in two. Jacob Nottingham extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an eighth-inning single.
With Lancaster leading, 4-2, Tripp Martin led off the top of the seventh inning for High Desert (46-40) with a double. Seth Spivey followed with a game-tying home run, and after an Alberto Triunfel single, Lewis Brinson gave the Mavericks a 5-4 lead with a RBI-triple off reliever Andrew Walter. Joe Jackson immediately followed with the second two-run homer of the inning, increasing the JetHawks' deficit to three runs.
Prior to yielding to Walter, Kevin Comer (1-3) tossed a career-high 6.2 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.
Lancaster came within one run in the bottom of the eighth on a McDonald two-run single off David Perez, but High Desert scored again in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. James Ramsay gave the JetHawks a one-out double in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate, but High Desert's Adam Parks stranded Ramsay to record the save.
With one out in the bottom of the first, Mott Hyde reached on a throwing error by shortstop Triunfel and scored on a Derek Fisher RBI-triple for an early JetHawks lead. But after three scoreless innings, the Mavericks jumped ahead in the fifth, as Kevin Torres hit a RBI-single and Chris Garia drove in the go-ahead run from third with a groundout.
Hyde led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and moved to second on a Nottingham walk before High Desert starter Connor Sadzeck exited the game. Reliever Ryan Ledbetter walked J.D. Davis to load the bases, and after Chase McDonald was hit by a pitch to force home the tying run, Ryne Slack (7-1) entered for the Mavericks and gave up a go-ahead two-run single to Mitchell.
Sadzeck pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out five.
The series concludes on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Austin Chrismon (3-1, 4.13) will pitch for the JetHawks opposite High Desert's David Ledbetter (1-6, 7.63).
