
Mavericks Win Holiday Shoot-Out Classic

Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The #1 Ranked SETX Mavericks (11-1) defeated the Houston Red Storm (0-5) to win the Holiday Shoot-Out Classic on Thursday night at Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center in Winnie, TX.
When Houston came out and took a six point lead early in the first quarter everyone was wondering was an upset in the making! After a Mavericks time-out and a little fire side chat from Coach Steve Tucker the Mavericks came back out and did what they have done so often thus far this season and that is play dynamic dominating basketball. The Mavs quickly went on a 16-2 run to gain control of the game and went on to a 36-22 lead at the end of one period of play.
In the second quarter SETX used suffocating defense the a lot Houston to only 15 points in the entire quarter while the Mavericks scored 33 points in the quarter. At the half SETX led 69-37.
In the third quarter the SETX Mavericks blew the roof off of their NJEC Arena by scoring 42 points while allowing the Red Storm to only 14 points. Alex Sanders, Odell Bradley, Jon Rogers, Currye Todd, and Myles Thrash set the tone and the Mavericks rolled out to a huge lead.
With the game in hand the fourth quarter saw the Mavs put things in cruise control and go on to another dominating victory!
The Mavericks put nine players in double figured led by Odell Bradley with 20 points. Alex Sanders followed up with 19 points and Josh Pace chipped 18 points. Mavs point guard Myles Thrash barely missed a triple double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assist. Former Maverick Brandon Andrews scored a game high 27 points for the Red Storm.
In the first game of the evening the Texas Fuel (8-3) defeated a hard playing Arlington Bulldogs 123-116. Kenny Wilson recorded a triple double with 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assist. Mike Gayle added 27 points respectively for the Fuel. Ralph Johnson led the Bulldogs with 35 points, while Antonio Odom followed up with 27 points.
Both the SETX Mavericks and the Texas Fuel went 2-0 in the Holiday Classic. The Mavericks were declared the Champions of the Classic by margin of victory in two games. The Fuel won two games by a total of 30 points while the Mavericks won two games by a winning margin of 127 points.
The All-Holiday Classic Team consisted of Kenny Wilson -TX Fuel, Antonio Odom - Arlington Bulldogs - Myles Thrash - SETX Mavericks - Odell Bradley - SETX Mavericks - Josh Pace - SETX Mavericks. The MVP of the Holiday Shoot-Out Classic was Alex Sanders - SETX Mavericks.
The Mavericks and Fuel will face off this Sunday in San Antonio, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
