Mavericks Win 19th Straight Game

The #1 Ranked SETX Mavericks (28-1) defeated the Houston All-Stars, who are a travel team that has only lost once this season 139-82 on Saturday night at their NJEC Arena in Winnie, TX.

The SETX Maverick won their 19th straight game of the season (this is also the most wins in a single season by the Mavericks).

The Mavericks also won their 34th straight game at home and move to 60-2 at home in three seasons.

SETX came out running at a fast and furious pace that surprised Houston. The Mavs famed pressure defense was out in full force as the Mavs held a very talented Houston team to 8 first quarter points.

The 2nd quarter was hotly contested as Houston found their range offensively and hit a series of three pointers. SETX maintained control though and went in up by 22 points at halftime 56-34.

In the 3rd quarter perenial ABA steals leader and top defensive player Desmond Cambridge entered the game for the first time to score 10 points in the quarter and get two crucial steals that started Mavericks runs as the Mavs blew the game open and went on to lead by 38 points heading into the final period of play.

In the 4th quarter SETX never looked back. The Mavericks scored 47 points in the final period of play to cruise to a 57 point victory.

Nine Mavericks players scored double figures on Saturday night in another dominating display of basketball by SETX. Currye Todd led the way with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Mike Nichols led Houston in scoring with 20 points.

Saturday night marked the final regular season game of the season for the Mavericks. The Mavs will begin a series of Preliminary Games to stay active and to prepare for the ABA Championship Finals, which will be hosted by the Mavericks at their Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center on March 23rd thru 29th. The highlight of the game was when 13th Man Donald "Baby D" Darden came on court in the last minute in a half of the game to hit two deep 3 Point baskets. Baby D hit 2 out of 3 three pointers to record 6 points on the night. Darden has been with the Mavericks Organization for 3 seasons and is beloved by everyone associated with the SETX Mavericks! "WAY TO GO BABY D!!!"

The SETX Mavericks will be home Thursday night as they will host the Houston Stallions in the first of three Preliminary Games before the Mavericks play their first game in the ABA Championship Finals. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
