Old Orchard Beach News Release
NEWINGTON - The Seacoast Mavericks of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) and the City of Portsmouth have reached an agreement for the team to play six games at Leary Field this upcoming season.
The Mavericks, entering their second season, primarily play home games at Bert George Field on the campus of Spaulding High School during the summer months.
"This is an exciting opportunity for our organization. The Seacoast has really embraced baseball as a focal point over the years and having the Seacoast Mavericks now play some of our games in Portsmouth is tremendous," said Mavericks Director of Baseball Operations Mike Daboul.
The split season will allow the team to involve themselves with Portsmouth's baseball rich community as well as surrounding towns on the seacoast.
"We are just really happy to be able to spread the Mavericks out throughout the Seacoast a little more and be able to share our baseball passion with other communities," Daboul said.
The team is comprised of top tier collegiate baseball players from New England and around the nation, including local standouts Casey Cotter (North Hampton), Ryan Coppinger and Cole Tobin (Dover), Luke and Zac Fernandes (Eliot, ME), and Aiden O'Leary (Greenland).
The Mavericks season opener is on June 7th at Bert George against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. The first Portsmouth game is on July 20th against in-state rival the Nashua Silver Knights. Additional Leary Field dates are June 28th and August 1-4.
