Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The #1 Ranked SETX Mavericks (8-0) continued their dominance that they've displayed thus far this season in Lafayette, LA on Sunday night as they rolled over the LA United Pelicans (1-3) in an ABA Gulf Coast Division game 134-63.
The Mavericks and Pelicans traded baskets early on in the first quarter as the Mavs showed some effects from playing the night before and were playing their first back to back game of the season. But when former ABA MVP DeRon Rutledge scored on his patented Jump Hook at the nine minute mark that started a 16-0 Mavericks run that would give the Mavs separation and total control of the game. SETX went on to a 36-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The SETX Mavericks as they've done all season continued to pour it on in the second period and took a commanding 72-30 lead into the locker-room at half-time.
The Pelicans fought hard in the third period and played their best basketball of the game. The Mavericks won the third quarter 29-20!
In the final period of play the Mavericks bench took over led by Desmond Cambridge, Currye Todd, and Myles Thrash. The Mavs held Louisiana United to just 13 points while scoring 33 points and finish the game on a strong note, which gave the Mavs their 8th victory of the season and their 19th consecutive regular season win dating back to last season when the Mavericks finished the ABA Regular Season with 11 straight victories.
Odell Bradley and Rutledge led a balanced scoring attack for the Mavs with each scoring 22 points. Bradley also led the Mavericks with 12 rebounds. Reigning ABA MVP Josh Pace scored 16 points. Cambridge followed up with 15 points. Jermaine Blackburn and Thrash each chipped in 10 points apiece respectively.
The Mavericks will be back in action this Thursday night at their NJEC Arena in Winnie, TX as they will host the Houston Red Storm. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
